13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
The Ministry of Outreach has been working to put together several options for you to be a blessing to others in the upcoming holiday season.
Malawi Orphan Sponsors: We are looking for 20 individuals, families or groups to sponsor a Malawian orphan child with the gift of Christian values, food, education and medical care for $35/month. , there will be future opportunities to (if desired, not mandatory) build a relationship with the child you sponsor through letters, and possibly a short term mission trip . See a member of Outreach for a sponsorship form and/or more info.
Partner Missionary Love Offering: We will be making one-time Christmas gifts to each of our 14 Global Partner missionaries and their families. Donations can be put in the appropriate boxes on the tables in the Foyer or Fellowship Hall or given in the same way you currently give your tithes and offerings.
Operation Christmas Child: Plastic shoe boxes are currently available from the church for this annual Christmas blessing. Fill the boxes with items for a boy or girl around the world. In addition to the box they will be presented with the gospel and an opportunity to learn more about Jesus. Return filled shoe boxes to the Gathering Area by November 15. Outreach will pay shipping for 2 boxes per family. If you wish to send more, please include $9 per box.
Daniel’s Place Gifts: Daniel’s Place is a respite care facility temporarily located at the Zion Lutheran Church in North Manchester. They gives short-term temporary care to persons whose disabilities are such that they need continual assistance. They are currently looking for volunteers to read, visit and do other activities with their patrons. In addition, they are in need of unscented cleaning supplies. Supplies can be dropped off at the church and placed in the boxes in the foyer and fellowship hall. To volunteer, please contact Erin at their office by calling (260) 306-5451. More information about Daniel’s Place can be found on their website at daniels-place.org.
REACH Christmas Boxes: Each December the local Fellowship of Churches provides boxes of food to more than 100 families in the North Manchester area. Our church has hosted the packing and preparation of these boxes for many years and we are excited to do it once again this year. Volunteers are needed to help sort food donations and place them in boxes (Dec.7-11) and to distribute the food boxes to families (Saturday, Dec. 12 @ 9am). Food donations are also very welcome and needed and can be made in the marked boxes around the church at any time. If you would like to know more about volunteering your time to this serving opportunity this year, please contact the REACH Christmas Box Coordinator (Jodi Barrett) at 260-306-1401.
These are just some ideas we’ve come up with—look around you,..how can you bless those you see or know? The Ministry of Outreach may have funds available to help with your blessing opportunity. Contact the office to find out how to get financial assistance with your project!
